My husband, Kelvin, was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer at the end of September 2025. My heart felt heavy and burdened—cancer was the last thing I could ever imagine.
I am a Christian, but Kelvin was not. We had been living simple, normal lives, often taking short trips whenever time allowed despite our busy work schedules. Suddenly, everything changed. Reality struck us hard.
It was the beginning of countless blood tests, scans, transfusions, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. From that moment, I knew I had to be strong. Many times, I prayed: “Heavenly Father, I am weak, but You are strong. I know You have a purpose for this situation. Please give me strength emotionally and spiritually. Amen.”
Kelvin began chemotherapy immediately. The first session went well, but during the second he experienced sudden chest pain due to an allergic reaction to the drug. My heart sank as I watched the doctors and nurses resuscitate him. This was only one of several heart pounding episodes. Again, I prayed fervently that Kelvin would survive—and he did. Thank God.
His hospital stay was filled with ups and downs: fluid in the lungs, dangerously low blood counts, infections. Stress and fear engulfed me with every new update from the doctors. Yet I held on to the verse, Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Taking a deep breath, I thanked Him.
Nothing is impossible with God. During his stay, Kelvin received Christ. It was an amazing surprise for me and our family. Thank God again for His miracle.
Hospital visits became my only routine besides work, but I was deeply grateful for the support of family, pastors, church friends, and colleagues. I knew God would not leave me to face this alone.
I remember walking along the cold, quiet hospital corridors at night with tears rolling down my face. I cried in the bathroom and spoke to God. At times, I reminded myself: “Walk by faith, not by sight. Lord, please be with me.”
After one and a half months, Kelvin was finally discharged. I truly thanked God for His blessings and mercy. He continued with the remaining chemotherapy sessions, and a few months later his tumors shrank significantly. He looked better, and it was by God’s grace.
I thank Him wholeheartedly for being with me throughout this caregiving journey.
