17 December 2024 – the day I was told that I had stage 1 womb cancer. As the doctor was speaking, my mind was racing in prayer. “God, are you giving me a miracle healing? Do I need to go for surgery since it is only stage 1...?” Meanwhile, the doctor was saying that I needed surgery to prevent the spread of cancer.
Initially, I was reluctant to go for surgery, but in that moment, somehow I had the assurance and peace that it was alright to have my womb removed and that God would be with me. So the date was set. I am glad I had the surgery done, as the post-operation biopsy showed stage 2C cancer with an aggressive cancer gene.
In the days of waiting for the surgery, God gave me a Bible verse from Psalm 46:1, 10: that He is my refuge and my strength, and that I should be still and know that He is God. With these words from Him, I started the cancer journey. These verses were just the beginning of many more words of counsel from the Lord.
I had chemotherapy and radiation after surgery. Treatment was not easy, as there were side effects, especially from chemotherapy. I was fearful of a second cancer from chemotherapy, and it made me very weak and vulnerable. I would sleep for two whole days after each cycle and only start to regain energy after eight days.
My hair fell out, and I had to deal with self-image issues. Neuropathy made my fingers and toes numb and tingle, sometimes with pain. I used to walk long distances, in the weeks that followed I could not even walk for 10 minutes. I even had to use a walking stick. My physical strength and pride came tumbling down.
God’s presence was very evident in my journey. At every cycle of chemotherapy, God would either drop Bible verses or a song into my heart, and these would see me through each cycle. In addition, He brought comfort and encouragement from friends, relatives, and even strangers.
I completed all my treatment in September 2025. Though I still have some side effects from the treatments, I am gradually getting stronger. I am assured that God will see me through as I continue to depend on Him and trust Him.
